The invention regards a non-thermal (or cold) plasma source, that is, a device for generating a plasma at a relatively low temperature (e.g. around 40°C). Said plasma source uses a gas discharge at atmospheric pressure. Such a device has applications for treatment of surfaces, in particular organic surfaces, or bio-compatible surfaces; more in particular, said device has applications for treatment of the human body, especially for application in the dental field. According to the present invention, the innovative plasma source allows to generate a non-thermal plasma and transporting it to a treatment place that can be very far from the plasma generation point without reducing its intensity, representing for this reason a great innovative point with respect to non-thermal plasma sources that allows transferring plasma only for few meters. The innovative plasma source presented in this invention allows overcoming this problem presenting also the use of a gas pumping system, internal to the hand-held unit that allows collecting atmospheric gas and pumping it inside the dielectric tube, avoiding external connections for gas supplying.
