Although allergic contact dermatitis in the elderly is a common health problem, with a frequency in clinical studies ranging from 34 (1) to 64% (2), few reports deal with this subject and their results are controversial. Therefore, we present a retrospective study of 224 elderly patients seen in the Department of Dermatology of the University of Bologna over a 2-year period (20022003), to identify any trend in allergic contact dermatitis among seniors, evaluating the role played by age and sex.
