Excavation work in progress limits the access of visitors to the archaeological site and precludes their enjoyment of the more interesting activity of archaeological research. Funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR), the COVAR project aims to develop and test a set of procedures and tools that enable people to visit and to optimize the management of archaeological sites during excavation works. The goal is to improve the quality of the tourist offer, through many additional visiting options, rich in cultural contents and in spectacular effects, which complement the traditional visit to an archaeological site. The COVAR system combines two different modules: - The Decision Support System, designed to support the Local Authority in the development of the excavation area; it aims at reducing the environmental impact of the excavation activities on the site - The System for multimedia exploring, accessible by consoles located along the walk and connected to a central server. In this second module, specially designed software enables the visitors to put the situation in context, to select basic information from a large library and assemble it in "short stories" through logical links, by a user-friendly interface.

Abstract
In this second module, specially designed software enables the visitors to put the situation in context, to select basic information from a large library and assemble it in "short stories" through logical links, by a user-friendly interface.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
