The oxidation of sorbitylfurfural achieved through radiolytically produced OH leads in the presence of Oxygen to a high yield functionalization of the molecule,. The products observed are carboxylic acids, butenal and hydroxy-furan derivatives. The possible routes leading to the different species have been clarified on the basis of spectroscopic measurements performed at different times after irradiation.
