The paper publishes the results of the surface investigations and archaeological excavations carried out by the Iranian-Italian Joint Archaeological Mission in Fars with the collaboration of other international teams at the Achaemenid site of Tol-e Ajori, in the Persepolis plain. The activities brought to light a monumental buidling of Early Achaemenid age, the interpretation of which has been supported by geophysical surveys carried out by an Iranian-French team as well as by an Iranian-Italian team. The monuments singles out in the frame of Achamenid architecture of Fars for the exclusive use of mud-brick and baked bricks, with glazed bricks for the outer decoration, inspired by Babylonian and Elamite traditions.
