Among the different hormone regulating lactation, leptin could be involved in modulating energetic metabolism during this physiological state. Negative correlation was found between leptin plasmatic concentration growth hormone (GH), non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and milk production. Positive correlation was found between leptin and body condition score (BCS). The pattern of leptin plasmatic concentration and its correlation with the metabolic parameters considered indicate an involvement of leptin in the regulation of energetic metabolism during lactation in Sarda goat breed.

Abstract

Among the different hormone regulating lactation, leptin could be involved in modulating energetic metabolism during this physiological state. Negative correlation was found between leptin plasmatic concentration growth hormone (GH), non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and milk production. Positive correlation was found between leptin and body condition score (BCS). The pattern of leptin plasmatic concentration and its correlation with the metabolic parameters considered indicate an involvement of leptin in the regulation of energetic metabolism during lactation in Sarda goat breed.
