ASTER sensor acquires along track stereoscopic images in near-infrared, with a spatial resolution of 15 m. These images can be used for the automatic generation of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) by well-established image-matching algorithms. These DEMs are useful for a variety of applications, providing very interesting and inexpensive products mainly for areas showing lack of mapping coverage. In the paper examples of DEM generation from ASTER imagery are illustrated, and the results obtained discussed in terms of accuracy assessment, in comparison with external reference data, and of generation of derived products.

Abstract
ASTER sensor acquires along track stereoscopic images in near-infrared, with a spatial resolution of 15 m. These images can be used for the automatic generation of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) by well-established image-matching algorithms. These DEMs are useful for a variety of applications, providing very interesting and inexpensive products mainly for areas showing lack of mapping coverage. In the paper examples of DEM generation from ASTER imagery are illustrated, and the results obtained discussed in terms of accuracy assessment, in comparison with external reference data, and of generation of derived products.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
