In this work, an experimental analysis on the formation and the drying processes of a filter press cake is performed using an electrical resistance tomography technique. The measurement system was installed in a real scale filter press adopted for the filtration process. The experimental results show that this method can be successfully applied both for investigating the cake formation as well as for analysing the drying process. From the analysis of the experimental data, both the average information as well as the local information on the liquid hold-up values can be obtained.

Abstract
