This article examines the plautine neoformation ille ego (Amph. 601), focusing on its syntagmatic origin, its linguistic nature of ‘paradoxical deictic’ and its modern reception. Ranging from the Middle Ages (Vitalis Blesesenis) to modern (humanistic comedy, Rotrou, Descartes, Molière) and contemporary re-readings of Plautus’Amphitruo (Hacks, Lacan), the analysis tries to establish a connection between ille ego and the ‘discovery’ of the modern ‘self’.

Abstract
This article examines the plautine neoformation ille ego (Amph. 601), focusing on its syntagmatic origin, its linguistic nature of ‘paradoxical deictic’ and its modern reception. Ranging from the Middle Ages (Vitalis Blesesenis) to modern (humanistic comedy, Rotrou, Descartes, Molière) and contemporary re-readings of Plautus’Amphitruo (Hacks, Lacan), the analysis tries to establish a connection between ille ego and the ‘discovery’ of the modern ‘self’.File in questo prodotto:
