In Augustus’ Res Gestae no woman is quoted, but the domus Augusta’s women are indeed represented on the ara Pacis Augustae. It is absolutely clear that in the new Augustan society women are in a difficult and ambiguous condition; they have to balance the ideal domestic model of women and their new public role, that means to give the Emperor an heir and to be involved in evergetic activities.
