The main aspects concerning the hydrogeological problems related to the closure of the mine of Gavorrano (Tuscany, Italy) are described. The geological and geostructural setting of the area affects groundwater flow systems and chemical composition and, consequently, the chance and modalities of rehabilitation and re-utilisation of the water resources, as shown in the paper. The results of the studies, analyses of existing data and the consequent implementation of the preliminary numerical models are reported, with particular reference to the effects of the controlled water recovery and the complex measures necessary for the dewatering stoppage. Water recovery is analysed on the basis of available historical and recent data, both in relation to its hydrodynamic influence and the consequences on water resources restoration. The applied numerical simulations, has resulted as a promising powerful tool to managing and planning future applications of the groundwater recovery in Gavorrano mining area in order to implement different reuses and mitigation measures, taking into account thermal, chemical and discharge features.

Abstract
The applied numerical simulations, has resulted as a promising powerful tool to managing and planning future applications of the groundwater recovery in Gavorrano mining area in order to implement different reuses and mitigation measures, taking into account thermal, chemical and discharge features.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
