Materials for reversible hydrogen storage in the solid state constitute a subject of intensive research. In this article, after an introductory discussion on hydrogen storage materials, specific examples of their investigation by means of synchrotron radiation are presented. Emphasis is given to the complementary use of X-ray diffraction and absorption techniques, and on the design of in situ experiments which permit to follow phase transformations and microstructure changes induced by hydrogen uptake and release.

Abstract
Materials for reversible hydrogen storage in the solid state constitute a subject of intensive research. In this article, after an introductory discussion on hydrogen storage materials, specific examples of their investigation by means of synchrotron radiation are presented. Emphasis is given to the complementary use of X-ray diffraction and absorption techniques, and on the design of in situ experiments which permit to follow phase transformations and microstructure changes induced by hydrogen uptake and release.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
