Preterm birth is a stressful and potentially traumatic event for the family. In this critical situation, the psychological characteristics of the father are important for the protection of the family and for the child development. Aim of this research was to study the influence of precursors of attachment and dyadic sensitivity of the fathers with preterm born children assessed by CARE-Index (Crittenden, 1979-2007), a video-recorded procedure of adult-child spontaneous interaction. We hypothesize that low father-infant dyadic sensitivity and the presence of precursors of insecure attachment are related to lower psychomotor development of the baby. Secondary, we hypothesize that depression and anxiety in fathers is related to a decrease in father-infant dyadic sensitivity, especially in families with preterm babies.
