A fluid/solid flow behaviour can be simultaneously present in debris flows, due to a significant segregation process whose consequence is the accumulation of the coarser materials at the front and of the finer materials at the tail. The objective of this work is to analyse the segregation process in stony debris flows. Experiments were carried out on a steep chute of variable length, to which a collecting bin divided by transversal and longitudinal sectors was fixed downstream. Two complex dry granular mixtures were pre-pared. Segregation was quantified, showing that it is very effective and rapid. The process rapidity results re-lated to flow depth and channel slope, whereas effects of mixture grain-size composition seem not apprecia-ble. Debris flow composition profile is reconstructed and discussed.

Abstract
Debris flow composition profile is reconstructed and discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
