Abstract

A high potential for lipid oxidation is a sign of metabolic fitness and is important not only for exercise performance but also for health promotion. The fatty acids include circulating very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), triglycerides (TGs) and intramyocellular TGS are a major fuel source for humans. Plasma free fatty acids (FFA), although present only in micromolar concentrations, during moderate intensity exercise, are the major circulating lipid fuel. Despite considerable progress during recent years, understanding about regulation of fatty acid metabolism at rest and during exercise remains unclear.
