P: Functional nanowires: synthesis, characterization and applications The control of physical properties at the nanoscale is the key for a true development of functional nanomaterials. Technological advances in synthesis of nanomaterials have enabled to tune sizes and dimensionality leading to novel materials class, such as nanowires or nanobelts. The challenge now is to exploit these improved or novel properties of functional nanowires in order to get an effective profit from them in a wide field of applications.
