This paper describes how the agricultural tractor bonnet design can be experimentally carried out: the dimensioning of the cooler system and the bonnet geometry are difficult to predict theoretically. In particular it is shown how, through several steps, the bonnet necessary technical and aesthetic characteristics are figured out and related to each other, and finally how the design decisions are selected. The measure procedures evaluating the engine parameters in each step are presented in detail. A concise description of the large amount of measurements is reported to illustrate the work done on the two prototypes. The developement of the project reported has been carried out at the laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Engineering of the Bologna University.

Abstract
This paper describes how the agricultural tractor bonnet design can be experimentally carried out: the dimensioning of the cooler system and the bonnet geometry are difficult to predict theoretically. In particular it is shown how, through several steps, the bonnet necessary technical and aesthetic characteristics are figured out and related to each other, and finally how the design decisions are selected. The measure procedures evaluating the engine parameters in each step are presented in detail. A concise description of the large amount of measurements is reported to illustrate the work done on the two prototypes.
