Standard subdivisions for echographic examination of equine tarsus, such as for metacarpal and/or metatarsal regions, have not been described. For this reason, the authors propose a systematic methodology for echographic evaluation of the hock. Tarsal region is divided in 4 subregions (dorsal, plantar, lateral and medial), on which different scansions were performed to allow the examination of main tarsal structures.

Abstract

Standard subdivisions for echographic examination of equine tarsus, such as for metacarpal and/or metatarsal regions, have not been described. For this reason, the authors propose a systematic methodology for echographic evaluation of the hock. Tarsal region is divided in 4 subregions (dorsal, plantar, lateral and medial), on which different scansions were performed to allow the examination of main tarsal structures.
