It has been known for a long time that the introduction of a small amount of polymer additives could significantly reduce friction drag in wall-bounded turbulent flows [1]. However, in the last years also the effect of polymers on turbulent thermal convection has drawn attention with controversial results. In this context, aim of this contribution is the presentation of the mathematical model for the study of natural convection between parallel walls in a dilute polymer solution. The discussion here will be also extended to the description of the kinetic and free energy balances in this flow.

Abstract

It has been known for a long time that the introduction of a small amount of polymer additives could significantly reduce friction drag in wall-bounded turbulent flows [1]. However, in the last years also the effect of polymers on turbulent thermal convection has drawn attention with controversial results. In this context, aim of this contribution is the presentation of the mathematical model for the study of natural convection between parallel walls in a dilute polymer solution. The discussion here will be also extended to the description of the kinetic and free energy balances in this flow.
