I would like to start my comments with two broad remarks. The first one is about Italy and the colonial empire in the Horn of Africa. Italian historiography is very poor in social studies. The main pattern of research, during colonialism and later, was focused on political history, international relations, law, philology, linguistics, and physical anthropology. Only recently did the young generation of scholars change this pattern and Italian historiography, for the first time, has established solid research based on social history. In Italy, Africa became a field of many disciplines, innovative experiences, really new trends.

Abstract
I would like to start my comments with two broad remarks. The first one is about Italy and the colonial empire in the Horn of Africa. Italian historiography is very poor in social studies. The main pattern of research, during colonialism and later, was focused on political history, international relations, law, philology, linguistics, and physical anthropology. Only recently did the young generation of scholars change this pattern and Italian historiography, for the first time, has established solid research based on social history. In Italy, Africa became a field of many disciplines, innovative experiences, really new trends.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
