Web architectures: innovative models and technologies One of the most fascinating aspects of the World Wide Web is its architecture: early overlooked by many as a simple hypertext system based on a client/server design, we soon realized that dynamic resources, uniform identifiers, types representations et cetera provide an elegant interplay of concept and technologies that support the Web we deal with in our everyday experience: an ubiquitous software infrastructure. The simplicity of the architecture, which has been functional to its universal adoption, was not naiveness. It was the result of an elegant design that has been able (adapting itself without changing its philosophy) to sustain an incredible evolution, which is arguably far from its climax. Today, emerging new classes of interactive, multi-user applications, in fact, need innovative approaches to the design of software systems able to support them and innovative technologies that can improve the interaction patterns between humans and components with the aim of providing a rich, interactive platform to end users and a robust and reliable platform to enterprise applications. All of this, of course, playing nicely with the Web way of doing things.
