Sapovirus (SaV) and norovirus (NoV) can infect both human and animals. Direct zoonotic transmission appears to be rare, however human and swine strains are correlated. In this study, wide presence of SaV, exhibiting high genetic variability, was confirmed in pigs affected with diarrhea. None of the porcine samples was positive for NoV. Samples were also investigated for Hepatitis E virus (HEV) that is an emerging zoonotic disease. This study confirms wide spread of HEV RNA in swine. Nucleotide sequences confirm that the strains belong to genotype 3, also identified in human cases in Italy.

Abstract
Sapovirus (SaV) and norovirus (NoV) can infect both human and animals. Direct zoonotic transmission appears to be rare, however human and swine strains are correlated. Samples were also investigated for Hepatitis E virus (HEV) that is an emerging zoonotic disease. This study confirms wide spread of HEV RNA in swine. Nucleotide sequences confirm that the strains belong to genotype 3, also identified in human cases in Italy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
