Abstract

Non-invasive testing for Helicobacter pylori infection is recommended for dyspeptic patients in primary care, in particular if they are aged <55 years [1]. Until recently, only two non-invasive methods of testing for H. pylori have been available: the urea breath test and the serology [2]. However, serological tests fell out of favour because their accuracy is no longer adequate to justify its use on clinical and also due to economic grounds [2]. The description of a stool antigen test with reliable sensitivity and specificity for detection of H. pylori have added another non-invasive tool [3]. Calvet et al. [4] studied 75 consecutive patients to evaluate in pre-treatment setting the performance of the monoclonal stool test, that was performed in triplicate, and the polyclonal stool test. Very recently, during the last DDW in New Orleans, Gisbert and Pajares have systematically reviewed the accuracy of H. pylori stool antigen tests,
