Following the introduction of self-inspection and hygiene control principles for all raw materials used in animal feeds, as per Regulation (EC) n. 183/2005, the alfalfa and dried forage production sector has started a process of extensive review and food safety control of its own supply chain. Abstract
Following the introduction of self-inspection and hygiene control principles for all raw materials used in animal feeds, as per Regulation (EC) n. 183/2005, the alfalfa and dried forage production sector has started a process of extensive review and food safety control of its own supply chain. The Authors report on the protracted discussion and collaboration efforts, involving the Aife Association, the University of Bologna and the Emilia Romagna Region, that have led to the publication of common Guidelines clearly setting out the process flows, the principal health hazards and the control, prevention and assurance systems for the products placed on the market. The ensuing activities have made it possible to rationalise the control and traceability systems, thereby laying the groundwork for quality enhancement programs aimed at an Italian supply chain that increasingly turns to these crops for the manufacture of high value livestock feeds.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
