This paper presents a comparison of manufacturing practice and performance in Ireland. The more recent picture, from 2003-2005, appears encouraging. Irish firms seem to be competing, improving their practices and improving their performance. There are world class and contenders evident like never before. However, a deeper review of this apparently encouraging picture yields a different conclusion. Improve competitiveness is being achieved through more narrowly focussed initiatives.

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of manufacturing practice and performance in Ireland. The more recent picture, from 2003-2005, appears encouraging. Irish firms seem to be competing, improving their practices and improving their performance. There are world class and contenders evident like never before. However, a deeper review of this apparently encouraging picture yields a different conclusion. Improve competitiveness is being achieved through more narrowly focussed initiatives.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
