The adoption of ray tracing models embedded in the system to predict the Channel State Information and allow a better exploitation of the potential of MIMO schemes in future mobile radio systems is proposed in the paper. Different kinds of applications are suggested and preliminary evaluations are carried out in the case of a simple beamforming technique applicable to single-user and multi user cases. Good results in terms of system throughput gain are envisioned, especially in multi-user cases.

Abstract

The adoption of ray tracing models embedded in the system to predict the Channel State Information and allow a better exploitation of the potential of MIMO schemes in future mobile radio systems is proposed in the paper. Different kinds of applications are suggested and preliminary evaluations are carried out in the case of a simple beamforming technique applicable to single-user and multi user cases. Good results in terms of system throughput gain are envisioned, especially in multi-user cases.
