In this study F. japonica showed toxicity towards different species such as crustaceans of the genus Artemia sp. and fishes, however mortality was present only at high cell densities and after long exposition time. Reactive oxygen species were analyzed during the Dicentrarchus labrax assay and 1H NMR analysis of the algal extract was performed to investigate brevetoxins production.
