The essay starts by critically reviewing current social theories which emphasize the thesis according to which globalization has gone hand in hand with a theoretical “crisis” in sociology. A number of scholars claim that “global society” has transformed the “social” to such an extent that classical sociological theory and that of the nineteenth century no longer seem adequate for conceptualizing not only the “new society,” but (human) society as such. The very distinction between human and non-human society is supposed to have been lost. In this context, is it still possible to formulate a “theory of society” and what form should such a theory take? The paper suggests to take into consideration a new paradigm called ‘relational sociology’, elaborated by the Author.

Abstract
The essay starts by critically reviewing current social theories which emphasize the thesis according to which globalization has gone hand in hand with a theoretical “crisis” in sociology. A number of scholars claim that “global society” has transformed the “social” to such an extent that classical sociological theory and that of the nineteenth century no longer seem adequate for conceptualizing not only the “new society,” but (human) society as such. The very distinction between human and non-human society is supposed to have been lost. In this context, is it still possible to formulate a “theory of society” and what form should such a theory take? The paper suggests to take into consideration a new paradigm called ‘relational sociology’, elaborated by the Author.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
