This paper investigates the kind and quantity of wavelength converters required for an effective packet contention resolution scheme. Tunable and non tunable wavelength converters are considered showing that optimal performance can be achieved with both. Then the utilization of such wavelength converters is evaluated showing that, by switching them off when not used, a significant saving in power consumption can be achieved.

Abstract
This paper investigates the kind and quantity of wavelength converters required for an effective packet contention resolution scheme. Tunable and non tunable wavelength converters are considered showing that optimal performance can be achieved with both. Then the utilization of such wavelength converters is evaluated showing that, by switching them off when not used, a significant saving in power consumption can be achieved.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
