This study aims at loss of life estimation of Mass Impregnated Non-Draining cables subject to zero crossing damped temporary overvoltages. The algorithm begins with calculating the steady-state temperature drop in the cable insulation. The electric field during the voltage transient is calculated using a macroscopic conduction model. Then, the loss of life is estimated based on the electrothermal life model at 5 points inside the insulation thickness. Results show that the loss of life is negligible during the transient. However, the greatest percentage of the loss of life is noticed during the first negative half-period.

Abstract
This study aims at loss of life estimation of Mass Impregnated Non-Draining cables subject to zero crossing damped temporary overvoltages. The algorithm begins with calculating the steady-state temperature drop in the cable insulation. The electric field during the voltage transient is calculated using a macroscopic conduction model. Then, the loss of life is estimated based on the electrothermal life model at 5 points inside the insulation thickness. Results show that the loss of life is negligible during the transient. However, the greatest percentage of the loss of life is noticed during the first negative half-period.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
