In this article I focus on Mayi-Mayi political history, on the symbolism which characterized this armed movement, its historicity and its role in mobilising youth in periods of crisis. Starting from an analysis of Kivu social history, I will consider the reasons that induce many youngsters to enrol. Than I will focus on Mayi-Mayi political discourse, their specific war rituals and practices which shape a new form of identity that emerges from the state of war. Finally I will consider some consequences of the war in Congo where violence seems to recompense the ones that use it.
