Abstract

Starting from an approach typical of kinetic theory, a population distribution function is defined and an equation is found, with a structure similar to the Boltzmann equation, that describes the evolution of this distribution function. A general solution is given in terms of the birth and death rates and of an arbitrary initial distribution function. An application to a specific case is presented by way of example.
