This paper discusses the application of the principle of appropriateness in children out-of-home care, with particular attention to the matching process between the child and the residential facility, in accordance with the child’s best interest. Drawing on key theoretical contributions on Therapeutic Residential Care, the analysis of the national guidelines and relevant literature, this paper develops a theoretical-practical framework aimed at translating the principle of appropriateness into operational indicators. On these bases, we propose an “ecological” tool to support social workers’ decision-making and promote shared criteria and professional language among educators and professionals in residential youth care.

Abstract
This paper discusses the application of the principle of appropriateness in children out-of-home care, with particular attention to the matching process between the child and the residential facility, in accordance with the child’s best interest. Drawing on key theoretical contributions on Therapeutic Residential Care, the analysis of the national guidelines and relevant literature, this paper develops a theoretical-practical framework aimed at translating the principle of appropriateness into operational indicators. On these bases, we propose an “ecological” tool to support social workers’ decision-making and promote shared criteria and professional language among educators and professionals in residential youth care.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
