The article investigates whether the EU Strategy for Civil Society has laid the ground for a change of paradigm that could ultimately consolidate the democratic foundations of the European Union, or if something more is to (and can) be done from a legal point of view. To shed light on that, the contribution first offers some preliminary constitutional insights and illustrates the focal points of the Strategy. Then, the analysis aims to place the Strategy in a broader EU law context, to discuss its legal added value. Last but not least, the work offers some perspective reflections to envisage how the Union could/should use its legal arsenal to better protect its civil space.

Abstract
The article investigates whether the EU Strategy for Civil Society has laid the ground for a change of paradigm that could ultimately consolidate the democratic foundations of the European Union, or if something more is to (and can) be done from a legal point of view. To shed light on that, the contribution first offers some preliminary constitutional insights and illustrates the focal points of the Strategy. Then, the analysis aims to place the Strategy in a broader EU law context, to discuss its legal added value. Last but not least, the work offers some perspective reflections to envisage how the Union could/should use its legal arsenal to better protect its civil space.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
