This article analyses the relationship between the Court of justice of the European Union (Cjeu) and the Court of arbitration for sport (Cas), highlighting the growing tension between the autonomy of the sports legal order and the requirements of Eu law. Focusing on recent case law, in particular the Seraing decision, the paper identifies three main issues: the status of Cas awards rendered outside the Eu, the self-executing nature of many sports arbitral awards, and the problem of attenuated consent in sports arbitration. The analysis shows that Cas arbitration is not subject to a special regime compared with international commercial arbitration. However, the Cjeu strengthens the role of European public policy and the principle of effective judicial protection under art. 47 of the Eu Charter, thereby limiting the autonomy of the sports legal order where Eu law is at stake.
