The article deals with the underwater archaeological investigations carried out in 2023 at the so-called Argine Passaora, in the Venice lagoon, referable to the typology of ‘embankments-roads’, important infrastructures that characterised the ancient lagoon landscape. The investigations made it possible to verify the state of conservation of the structure twenty years after the first intervention and to specify the chronology of its use, with continuity from the early imperial age to the late antique period.

Abstract

The article deals with the underwater archaeological investigations carried out in 2023 at the so-called Argine Passaora, in the Venice lagoon, referable to the typology of ‘embankments-roads’, important infrastructures that characterised the ancient lagoon landscape. The investigations made it possible to verify the state of conservation of the structure twenty years after the first intervention and to specify the chronology of its use, with continuity from the early imperial age to the late antique period.
