From Volunteerism to Duty: Reforming Peer Review with Tokens

Reviewing is a time-honored practice. Peer review, in its modern form, began to spread in the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming standard in the 20th century. Although today software supports reviewers in handling the process and performing automatic controls (e.g., plagiarism detection), the review process has remained fundamentally unchanged for centuries. But over the past decade, there has been a progressive lengthening of the review time for scientific articles.
