This article surveys the role of phraseological features in translation and interpreting studies (TIS), focusing on definitional issues and descriptive insights into typical features of translated and interpreted discourse. It reviews studies that reflect shared methodological and descriptive concerns across TIS, as well as others more specific to either translation or interpreting. The discussion highlights how methodological choices reflect theoretical assumptions about the nature of phraseology and gives attention to contextual and linguistic variables affecting phraseological use. Finally, the article explores phraseology's relevance in research at the crossroads between TIS and other fields.
