Nuovi giochi di pazienza. A proposito della traduzione francese del “Beneficio di Cristo”: edizioni e esemplari noti e ritrovati

This paper constitutes a preliminary step in the study of the French translation of one of the best-known books of the Italian Reformation: "The Benefit of Christ’s Death" by Benedetto da Mantova and Marcantonio Flaminio. The first part of the paper traces the history of the discovery of the copies of this very rare text, immediately placed on the Index of Prohibited Books, in the aim of reconstructing its complex editorial history. The second part of the paper focuses on the analysis of the textual tradition starting from the examination of the known copies in order to correct the wrong data transmitted throughout the last two centuries and to illustrate the relationships between the different editions of the French version.
