Indexing trials have been carried out in the greenhouse to detect some important viruses infecting apple. Potted plants of ‘Virginia Crab’, ‘Radiant’, ‘Spy 227’ and ‘R12740-7A’ indicator cultivars were graft-inoculated with different sources of ASGV, ASPV and ACLSV. After infection with a specific virus, indicators reacted with diagnostic symptoms in a reliable way just after a few weeks/months, greatly reducing the time required by the traditional field indexing. The results obtained confirmed the validity of moving the bioindexing for these viruses from open field to a greenhouse controlled environment.

Abstract
Indexing trials have been carried out in the greenhouse to detect some important viruses infecting apple. Potted plants of ‘Virginia Crab’, ‘Radiant’, ‘Spy 227’ and ‘R12740-7A’ indicator cultivars were graft-inoculated with different sources of ASGV, ASPV and ACLSV. After infection with a specific virus, indicators reacted with diagnostic symptoms in a reliable way just after a few weeks/months, greatly reducing the time required by the traditional field indexing. The results obtained confirmed the validity of moving the bioindexing for these viruses from open field to a greenhouse controlled environment.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
