This article analyzes the Alter-Globalization Movement that emerged at the turn of the 21st century as a form of cosmopolitan activism that diverged from conventional leftist political traditions. Examining key protests from Seattle (1999) to Genoa (2001), it demonstrates how this decentralized, grassroots phenomenon contested both neoliberal globalization and statecentric power structures. Grounded in Hardt and Negri’s theoretical framework, the analysis elucidates the movement’s inherently pluralistic character – conceptualized as the «Multitude» – and its fundamental opposition to traditional constructions of the «People». The discussion further traces the movement’s evolution into anti-war activism following 9/11, its gradual dissolution, and its persistent influence on contemporary social movements.

Abstract
The discussion further traces the movement’s evolution into anti-war activism following 9/11, its gradual dissolution, and its persistent influence on contemporary social movements.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
