The paper analyses the role of knowledge-construction processes in collective decision-making regarding the regulation and allocation of work. It highlights the crucial importance of these processes within the interdependent relationship between work, citizenship and democratic participation. Firstly, the paper reconstructs the link between work and democracy, emphasising the centrality of work in forming democratic citizenship. The main section then examines the relationship between work and knowledge, focusing on quantification processes and the resulting perceptual, organisational and political distortions. It then proposes an interpretative framework to better understand the shift from the descriptive to the prescriptive function of measurement tools, and their effects on the governance of work. After offering reflections on reconnecting work, knowledge and democracy, the paper concludes with a brief overview of the essays in the Special Issue.

Abstract
After offering reflections on reconnecting work, knowledge and democracy, the paper concludes with a brief overview of the essays in the Special Issue.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
