This paper seeks to provide a new perspective on the context within which the excavations conducted at the site of ancient Karkemish up to World War I were first conceived and then developed. It draws mostly on unpublished documents kept in the British Museum and elsewhere in Great Britain, which were studied in the course of several research visits and are presented here through selected excerpts.

Abstract
This paper seeks to provide a new perspective on the context within which the excavations conducted at the site of ancient Karkemish up to World War I were first conceived and then developed. It draws mostly on unpublished documents kept in the British Museum and elsewhere in Great Britain, which were studied in the course of several research visits and are presented here through selected excerpts.File in questo prodotto:
