This study presents an updated analysis of the Tjäder papyrus no. 2. The document contains a highly fragmentary section of the donation made by Emperor Justin II and Empress Sophia between 565 and 570, which transferred the landed properties of the Arian Church to the Church of Ravenna. The donation was likely decreed earlier by Emperor Justinian between 557 and 565, but the fragmented nature of the papyrus precludes a defi nitive determination of whether some of the Arian episcopal properties had already been transferred to the patrimony of Saint Apollinaris at that time or if Justinian’s decree was only fully implemented by Justin II. This study focuses on the quantitative elements of the papyrus, particularly the taxes to be paid to the imperial administration on the donated properties, with specific attention to the meaning of the term pensio.
