ThisThis paper examines the figure of Pope Francis, reflecting in particular on the type of leadership that he embodies and proposes. It considers three models: the charismatic leader (in the Weberian sense), the populist leader, and the testimonial leader. The discussion concludes with a proposition that exemplarity, as embodied by Pope Francis, is a strategy balancing common sense with the renewal of social codes.
