This paper considers the study of the ancient Roman theatre by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger and his brother Giovanni Battista. In particular, it looks at the theatre at Ferento, which was built in the 4th century and is located in the northern part of Lazio, between Viterbo and Montefiascone. The close analysis of the drawings by the two architects reveals several issues regarding the organization of the workshop, measurement techniques, and the knowledge of Vitruvius, as well as the discrepancy between his description of the Roman theater and the archaeological evidence.
