This paper forms part of ongoing research into care work in Italy, which is being conducted between 2020 and 2024. It adopts an expanded definition of care work (ILO, 2018). The analysis highlights that the care work crisis is an expression of the socio-reproductive contradictions of contemporary capitalism (Fraser, 2016, 2024; Dowling, 2021), significantly impacting both workers and citizens. Particular attention is given to disinvestment in public health, the crisis of the public sector's role, and the reduction of spaces for representation. Against this backdrop, the paper presents the key findings of a survey conducted in 2024 with approximately one thousand non-medical healthcare workers in Rome and Lazio, initiated by the FP-CGIL. Taking a relational approach (Tilly, 1998), it identifies critical issues and potential strategies for improving working conditions and strengthening collective action in the sector
