The article deals with the UN Security Council (SC) resolutions 2532 (2020) and 2565 (2021) recommending a global ceasefire and a durable humanitarian pause all over the world in order to face the COVID-19 pandemic. It is argued that such resolutions have been enacted under Chapter VI of the UN Charter, rather than Chapter VII. Several previous SC resolutions on epidemic crises are also taken into account, especially res. 2177 (2014) on Ebola virus. The lack of references to the need for protection of human rights within COVID-19 resolutions is also pointed out. In the end, some reflections are developed about the effectiveness of the strategy employed by the SC in order to halt conflicts with the aim of countering the Pandemic.

Abstract
The article deals with the UN Security Council (SC) resolutions 2532 (2020) and 2565 (2021) recommending a global ceasefire and a durable humanitarian pause all over the world in order to face the COVID-19 pandemic. It is argued that such resolutions have been enacted under Chapter VI of the UN Charter, rather than Chapter VII. Several previous SC resolutions on epidemic crises are also taken into account, especially res. 2177 (2014) on Ebola virus. The lack of references to the need for protection of human rights within COVID-19 resolutions is also pointed out. In the end, some reflections are developed about the effectiveness of the strategy employed by the SC in order to halt conflicts with the aim of countering the Pandemic.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
