This article focuses on Victoria Ocampo’s Autobiografía and on the biographies written about her life by several women literary critics from Argentina, United States and France in the late 1900s, namely F. Schultz de Mantovani, A. Omil, Doris Meyer, O. Felgine and L. Ayerza de Castilho, M. E. Vázquez. After enumerating some models of self-representation Ocampo knew, this paper intends to explore the complex array of motivations that brought her to write her memoir. Secondly, it focuses on her biographers who explored her life in her specific social and cultural contexts, providing privileged proof of Ocampo’s life as an empowerment path for women writers. Therefore, it suggests that Ocampo’s own analysis of the risks, obstacles and achievements she faced after devising the editorial project Sur reveals her personal agency and the impact of her selfhood as a purposive social actor

Abstract
