This contribution offers an examination of abortion regulation in Italy, from its explicit prohibition, through the adoption of the 1978 law, to the present day, where women’s right to manage their own health and bodies in relation to motherhood appears under threat. Abortion must be regarded as a medical practice, an expression of the fundamental right to health, and as such, it cannot be restricted or denied
